NewsNovember 12, 2005TO THE TOP OF THE SLIDESinging about backyard on his latest album doesn't prevent Paul McCartney from going to more open spaces. Now old Macca's going to be beamed right to the space and back to Earth. On November 12th the international space station crew, 220 miles above Earth, will receive a signal from ex-Beatle's Anaheim, California’s Arrowhead Pond's show. The first time ever concert linkup is to be first enjoyed by American astronaut Bill McArthur and Russian cosmonaut Valery Tokarev, now in the middle of their six-month flight, and then broadcast live on NASA Television. Cosmic entertaiment, say no more! LIKE FATHER LIKE SONOliver Wakeman, Rick's eldest son, is famous amongst the prog rock aficionados as a purveyor, sometimes with PENDRAGON's Clive Nolan, of concept albums based on classic literature. Those usually featured a host of name guests but Wakeman Jr has never done an album with a stable band. Now, he has both the band - with Oliver tending to keyboards, Moon Kinnaird singing, David Mark Pearce playing guitar, Tim Buchanan handling bass and experienced Dave Wagstaffe drumming - and the album. Called "Mother’s Ruin", it's nearing the release date.
GOOD "NIGHT"QUEEN's legacy is never far away, and while the remnants of the band are on Paul Rodgers-fronted tour right now, their past runs well into the future, with the 30th anniversary of their acclaimed album, "A Night In The Opera". To mark the event, a Special Collectors Edition of the record is released on November 21th. There are two discs featuring the "Night" in CD and DVD formats newly restored from original analogue tapes and digitally re-mastered, in both stereo and 5.1 surround sound. Also thereon are the original videos for "Bohemian Rhapsody" and "You’re My Best Friend" as well as videos for the rest of the songs created especially for this release, and archive audio commentary from all four members of QUEEN. WILLIN' - BUT READY?The talk of the forthcoming WHITESNAKE DVD has been lingering on for am year now, keeping the fans frustrated with delay after delay. The January 27th release date is said to be final, and there's even a track list emerged - that states the thirst will be quenched not only with brilliant video footage that captures David Coverdale, drummer Tommy Aldrige, guitarists Doug Aldrich and Reb Beach, bassist Marco Mendoza and keyboard player Timothy Drury at the London's Hammersmith, but also with a bonus CD of the same performance... which shows at least one cut has been omitted from the DVD. Go figure!
ROLL A STONIETo dig the modern marketing strategies in show business is a hard task. Less than two months after the release of their new studio offering, "A Bigger Bang", THE ROLLING STONES give their fans - well, the hardcore fans - another wallet-purger. "Rarities 1971-2003" is exactly what it says, a collection of songs that have never made in onto the CD, rare B-sides and some alternative mixes. The much-discussed "Anthology" will have to wait yet, so don't part with yer bootleg collection for a time being.
IT CAME FROM PLEASUREUFO are on the roll, even though off the radar for many who never considered the British band real contenders, especially when there's no Michael Schenker onboard. But they are! And there's a proof: a double-DVD and double-CD packages with a word "Showtime" on 'em. Recorded on May 13th, 2005 in Germany, these feature the classic tracks alongside gems of recent times - the songs are the same on both formats, yet surely, the DVDs bring forth much more delights.
STRANGE BREWThere's not many guitarists with such integrity in their eclecticism as Steve Howe. Easily handling every style and genre that exists, the YES gentle meister constructs his compositions very very carefully, and it's always interesting to see how Howe does that. Steve allows to look over his shoulder sometimes - with his "Homebrew" series. "Homebrew 3", out now, is more of the same, if 'the same' is the right words to describe what the veteran does. This time, there's more sketches later used for YES' songs.
