It feels extraordinarily right for Andy Summers to release a new record on the day of summer Solstice – not only because of the phonetic aspect of the veteran’s name and the season but also because of the perfect balance of light and shadow on this date, June 21st, which the guitarist-turned-photographer is an expert in. Until now, however, Andy hasn’t tried to merge these two passions of his, yet on the mini-album titled “Vertiginous Canyons” Summers does exactly that.
This offering is being touted as an EP, but with eight track on offer it’s more like a mini-album wherein each of the pieces presents a soundtrack to a picture from “A Series of Glances” – the former Policeman’s collection of images, published last year. The results are ambient and, as usual with this artist, utterly enchanting.
