Predictable but sad nevertheless… Bernie Worrell, the Wizard of Woo, passed away, aged 72, after a battle with cancer. A keyboard revolutionary, his sonic contribution was an integral fiber of a volatile FUNKADELIC-PARLIAMENT conglomeration on such blistering classics as “Free Your Mind… And Your Ass Will Follow” and “Maggot Brain” yet Worrell has never limited himself to George Clinton’s vision. Bernie collaborated with diverse array of artists, most notably TALKING HEADS and Jack Bruce, the latter union producing a vibrant "Monkjack" album. Jazz, blues, rock, soul: for him it was all the same, strains of a big whole he pulled out of ether to add to a groovy or elegiac moment. Now, Bernie Worrell has become part of that ether. R.I.P.
