There was no such thing as a typical DEEP PURPLE show back in the ’70s, only typical set lists: that’s why there’s so many concert recordings from that era – legal and otherwise. It’s taken years, though, to bring an old bootleg onto the shelves, but March 2nd will finally see the group-approved release of “Long Beach 1971” which would be the first official release from that tour.
Documenting the live performance from July 30th, when DP were a support act for FACES, the CD contains only four tracks: the Mk I classic, rendered progressive, two cuts from “In Rock” and the quintet’s latest single yet, surprisingly, nothing from the just-released “Fireball” – that doesn’t diminish the record’s energy. Fantastic as ever.
