While it’s nigh on impossible to surprise anyone with covers’ album nowadays, about three years ago guitarist George Lynch and bassist Jeff Pilson did exactly that when they released a collection called “Heavy Hitters” which included not only the former DOKKEN colleagues’ takes on rock staples such as Little Richard’s “Lucille” but also their versions of contemporary pop material from the likes of Madonna. And now the old friends are ready for the second round of this, as “Heavy Hitters II” is scheduled to be out on August 11th.
Their pair’s forthcoming offering is a bit different from its predecessor in that there’s one original piece, “It’s A Wonderful Life” that was issued last December as a Christmas-themed single (watch video below), whereas the rest of the cuts – all voiced by Bernard Fowler, THE ROLLING STONES’ backing singer and a great artist in his own right – mix classics, including “Sledgehammer” from Peter Gabriel’s repertoire, with recent pop hits, Sam Smith’s “Stay With Me” among the latter. Here’s the full list of its tracks – attributed, to the best of DME’s abilities, to original performers. Looks interesting and enticing.
1. Sledgehammer (Peter Gabriel)
2. Carry On (CSNY)
3. The Stroke (Billy Squier)
4. Radioactive (IMAGINE DRAGONS)
5. Smokestack Lightning (Howlin’ Wolf)
6. Hold On (I’m Coming) (Sam & Dave)
7. Stay With Me (Sam Smith)
8. Shout (TEARS FOR FEARS)
9. New Sensation (INXS)
10. Jumpin’ Jack Flash (THE ROLLING STONES)
11. Thank You (Falettinme Be Mice Elf Agin)
(SLY AND THE FAMILY STONE)
12. It’s A Wonderful Life
