ROBERT CALVERT –
Captain Lockheed And The Starfighters
With the latest surge of activity in the HAWKWIND camp – last year saw the release of the band’s “Onward”, of Dave Brock’s solo offering "In The Lost Land Of Dreams", and of the HAWKWIND LIGHT ORCHESTRA’s debut "Stellar Variations" – it’s no wonder that other fractions of the ensemble’s extended family spring into action too.
One of these is THE PSYCHEDELIC WARLORDS led by bassist Alan Davey who announced their intention to pay tribute to the Hawk wordsmith, the great late Bob Calvert, by playing his classic album "Captain Lockheed And The Starfighters" in its entirety, for the first time ever, in April 2014. Marking its 40th anniversary, the group will also perform other Calvert’s songs such as “Evil Rock”.
Before that, Nik Turner, will releases a new album, "Space Gypsy", featuring appearances by Steve Hillage and a former Hawk Simon House. The record is prefaced with a “Fallen Angel STS-51-L” single – digital, out on July 2nd, and a limited edition 7-inch vinyl, on July 14th. Calling it “the epitome of epiphanic, orgasmic, cathartic embodiment of my space dreams, become one man’s reality, exploding into space”, Turner also puts a video to give a taste of things to come.
Higher and higher, then!
