Perhaps, nothing spells one’s determination to embrace eternity more evidently than SAVOY BROWN leader Kim Simmonds’ work ethic. The British guitarist knew that he didn’t have long to live and that he might not live to see the ensemble’s next studio album – their last-ever new offering – when he and his colleagues embarked on writing and recording a follow-up to their brilliant “Ain’t Done Yet” which was out in 2020. Simmonds lost his battle with cancer on December 13th, 2022, yet February 17th, 2023 is the day when a platter titled “Blues All Around” will be released.
As usual the making of this album was a labor of love for Kim who had to adapt a fresh method of laying it down. That’s what the veteran noted with regard to the opus: “The new album continues the approach I’ve been taking with the band this past decade. The big difference with the new album is the multi-layer approach I took to recording the guitar parts. It’s all blues-based rock music. I try to find new and progressive ways to write and play the music I’ve loved since I was a young teenager.” What a spirit! (Read the review.)
