Given that SHAKATAK‘s first concert recording appeared rather early in their career, there’s no doubt the British band always knew how strong they were on stage, and in the more than forty years of the ensemble’s existence they issued more than a few live documents, each of those eagerly embraced by the veterans’ faithful fanbase. Yet some of those are bound to be special, and the 2CD and DVD scheduled for release on March 22nd is one such album.
Its title saying all, “Nightbirds Session + Greatest Hits Live At The Stables” captures the collective, whose four-strong core has been together since 1981, play their 1982 masterpiece “Night Birds” from beginning to end following the eight songs by a selection of their best moments, the first and second part of the Milton Keynes show, preserved for posterity in September 2022, placed on a separate CD and brought together on a DVD. With a platter of Bill Sharpe’s duets with Leee John slated to see the light on February 23rd, this spring promises to become eventful for the Shaks’ followers.
