40 years ago, in 1975, “The Band Plays On,” a debut album by BACK STREET CRAWLER, saw the light of day. But while this band consolidated around former FREE guitarist Paul Kossoff, it was keyboard player Mike Montgomery who composed or co-write all of that LP’s tracks only to leave the fold soon after for a session work. Sadly, he passed away in 1991, but his musical legacy remains, and now there’s a crowdfunding campaign going on whose target is recording a tribute to him, a project called “Crawling Spider: The songs of Mike Montgomery,” and donate the proceeds left after its production to the American Cancer Society.
It’s going to be a homage to both Mike Montgomery and Paul Kossoff, so there are some nice perks, and there are some great musicians on-board, among them BSC members – drummer Tony Braunagel, bassist Terry Wilson and singer Terry Slesser – plus famous session vocalist Robbie Wyckoff, the “I Love Rock ‘n’ Roll” creator Alan Merrill, FIREHOUSE’s gutarist Bill Leverty and his colleague in FLOOD THE ENGINE, vocalist Jimmy Kunes, as well as KISS associates Bruce and Bob Kulick. With little more than a fortnight left until the campaign end, it’s an action time.
