Quarantine may feel depressing to some people but to artists such as Steve Hunter lockdown can be an excuse to concentrate on all things creative. While the glorified guitarist has yet to deliver a follow-up to "Before The Lights Go Out" that saw the light of day three years ago and brought forth a slew of original material, he – together with wife Karen, a fine singer, and Tony Levin, who laid down bass tracks – recorded a few favorites, while sequestered in Spain. “Cafe La Rouge” – available now and subtitled “Covered With Love” – is a mini-album which captures the veteran’s current spirit by offering a fresh look at choice oldies.
Mostly jazz standards done with a pinch of blues, the six pieces also include a Lennon-McCartney ballad, so if you liked what Hunter brought to “Solsbury Hill” there’s much to expect.
