THE ORB And David Gilmour Color Up Old “Spheres”

It’s not so often that David Gilmour adds his immediately recognizable passages to other artists’ projects, which makes such collaborations very much special, and the success of the PINK FLOYD guitarist joint effort with THE ORB, “Metallic Spheres” from 2010 didn’t seem to surprise anyone. However, their album’s version titled “Metallic Spheres In Colour” and scheduled for release on September 29th, might.

And DAVID GILMOUR –
Metallic Spheres In Colour

The musicians behind it state they have reworked it, and the change isn’t limited to the fresh artwork – again designed by Simon Ghahary – and to “featuring” replaced with “and” on the cover to signify Gilmour’s more equal footing there; they created an entirely new series of sonic images – still progressive in intent and still laid out in two parts. While the album’s original version consisted of “Metallic Side” and “Spheres Side” as principal epics, this time the cosmic suites are “Seamless Solar Spheres Of Affection Mix” and “Seamlessly Martian Spheres Of Affection Mix” – so the spaced-out raptures are guaranteed again.

Of course, remixing provides endless possibilities, but when it’s THE ORB with their constant experiments and David Gilmour with his blues-based flights of fantasy, no one can doubt the originality of what they do even if what they do is rooted in what they already did.
