Next year, Mohammed Abdullah also known as John Alder yet famous as Twink will turn 80 years young, and the closer to this date the more momentum the legendary artist gains, delivering album after album ever since his return to recording activities a decade ago. 2023 will see the veteran issue not one but two platters: one a covers-based collaboration and the other a continuation of his long-running psychedelic trip.
The former feels more interesting, as it’s a self-titled joint effort between Twink and THE SITAR SERVICE, a young trio from London: out on April 22nd as part of Record Store Day, its original release will be on vinyl, with CD version to follow later on to present a raga-tinged versions of perennials, including classics by THE YARDBIRDS, PINK FLOYD and, surprisingly, LED ZEPPELIN and BLACK SABBATH. Here’s what it looks like:
1. I’m A Man (THE SPENCER DAVIS GROUP)
2. Voodoo Chile (Jimi Hendrix)
3. Sunshine Of Your Love (CREAM)
4. Iron Man (BLACK SABBATH)
5. Heart Full Of Soul (THE YARDBIRDS)
6. Set Controls For The Heart Of The Sun (PINK FLOYD)
7. Spanish Blood (THE YARDBIRDS)

9. My Generation (THE WHO)
10. My White Bicycle (TOMORROW)
11. SF Sorrow Is Born (THE PRETTY THINGS)
12. Jingo-Lo-Ba (SANTANA)
The later release, scheduled for June 2nd, is “Think Pink V” – another installation in Alder’s series that started with the cult “Think Pink” in 1970 and picked up with “Think Pink II” in 2015. It’s of limited appeal, although the genre’s connoisseurs should cherish this offering. Read the review.
