14 years ago, Ozzy Osbourne was opening the NFL kickoff at the Patriots game, with the song Crazy Train. If you are a football betting enthusiast, you surely must have remembered about that moment when this season kicked off, last month.
However, it’s the year 2019, and we have to get up to date with dear old pal, Ozzy Osbourne. The last we had in our page about him was not very recent and “The Prince of Darkness” has been doing a lot, especially this year, including a solo album.
The former Black Sabbath vocalist didn’t start the year off as he’d like to, having to postpone all his tour dates of the year after falling at home and aggravating an old injury from 2003. The incident back then, had cost him multiple broken ribs as well as fracturing his collarbone, although at the time it was not considered life-threatening it left him some serious sequels. That and the fact he was recovering from a Pneumonia did not make him any good.
According to BBC most of his performances scheduled for 2020 are still on foot, and it’s expected to reschedule the canceled dates, most of them in the US, to early 2020. but after a long recovery and rehabilitation process, the heavy metal singer went to the studio and started to record again, giving us some interesting surprises.
Phenomena Post Malone
The New York-born singer and Rapper, Post Malone, released his most recent album on September 6. It was a major surprise to see Ozzy Osbourne as one of the featured artists on it alongside Travis Scott, only in 2019 you’d see this happening.
The song, called “Take What You Want” does include a lot of rock elements and gives it a bit of a melancholic and semi-eerie atmosphere. The track made it to the No. 8 on the Billboard Hot 100, breaking the record of 30 years without reaching the top 10 in this list, since his 1989 duet with Lita Ford, “Close My Eyes Forever”.
It also is his first appearance in the Hot 100 list since 2011 “Let It Die” reaching No.21, and Black Sabbath’s No.38 track of 2013 “End of The Beginning”. Andrew Watt, co-producer of the song talked about it how the collaboration happened on BILLBOARD.
The producer had met Osbourne’s daughter in a Party and suggested the collaboration, immediately everyone was on board. “Kelly played him the tape and he loved it, but then I didn’t hear anything for a while,” Watt remembers. “I kept texting Kelly over and over again, and all of a sudden, we got the text from her that said, ‘Dad’s going to do the song. He loves it.’”
Black Sabbaths’ former front man met with Watt in his LA studio, to write and record his part, but Post Malone couldn’t attend the more than interesting session due to his current tour. The song also counts, funnily enough with the participation of Red-Hot Chili Pepper’s drummer Chad Smith in its making.
Finally, New Album
“The Prince Of Darkness”, back in September as well, announced he had just recorded “a bunch of songs” according to a long interview he gave to The Sun. Stating that the making of this new album has “helped get me back on track.” He added “I was just lying in my own self-pity for months. It’s the greatest album I’ve done.”
The idea of a 12th album came after being featured in Post Malone’s new album and goes on about, “I’d never even heard of this kid. He wanted me to sing on his song ‘Take What You Want’, so I did and then one thing led to another. I started recording a new album with Post Malone’s producer Andrew Watt. It’s only nine tracks but it was a catalyst to get me to where I am today”
Ozzy also talked about his connection with music, and how he felt out of touch with the industry today, now that it’s been almost 10 years since his last album (2010’s Scream). The Heavy Metal Singer will be touring again as early as February 2020 and will be for sure one unforgettable experience to see this god of rock back on a stage, once again.
