WIGWAM Expand The Masterpiece Of “Fairyport”

"Fairyport" was where Finnish progressive rock giants WIGWAM found their identity so, although there would be more interesting works, such as "Nuclear Nightclub" in their oeuvre, 1971’s double album still stands out in the ensemble’s catalogue. That’s why the record’s 50th anniversary was deemed a great opportunity to come up with its expanded reissue and have Jukka Gustavson, the last member of the early line-up to remain alive, uncover material which didn’t make the cut, yet the decision to release it on vinyl as well as CD resulted in the postponing of the street date, defined currently as October 7th.

The remastered “Fairyport” is augmented with four studio cuts – two demos and two alternative versions which feature Pekka Pohjola’s violin parts, later mixed out – and a couple of live sessions, one of those containing a run through THE BAND’s classics at the first-ever Ruisrock festival, and the other the earliest existing version of “Losing Hold”; but there’s no “Rave-up For The Roadies” which closed the original platter – no 17-minute version of the legendary jam, that is, because the full 36-minute epic has been unearthed to be presented now in its entirety, spanning a whole LP in the four-disc, limited edition vinyl box set. More accessible 2CD variant looks very teasing, too.
