Keith Christmas Releases A Concert Album

The usual salient points of Keith Christmas‘s career – playing acoustic guitar on the “Space Oddity” album and gracing the stage of the inaugural Glastonbury Festival in 1970 – doesn’t do justice to this artist’s talents that shone ever so brightly on his mid-'70s records. What creates a huge gap in the veteran’s discography, though, is the scarcity of concert albums, as there was only one, “Live At The Pump” from 2012, and that’s something which has just been remedied, to an extent.

Issued on December 28th, “Live At The Adelphi” finds Christmas returning to the titular Hull venue after a 15-year absence to deliver fourteen songs of pure liveliness, as he describes it. “There’s nowhere like the Adelphi, and it brings out the best in anyone lucky enough to perform there,” remarks Keith. Somebody told him that one of the punters said to the other that night, “that guy has got notes on his guitar that I haven’t got on mine!” – and indeed, Christmas’s set on display, available on his Bandcamp, is a brilliant reflection of Keith’s desire to exist in the here and now, with many of his classic numbers left out in favor of tracks from latter-day offerings, such as "Life, Life from 2019. If only he could uncover some old recordings to release too…
