Jah Wobble‘s been a Jamaican music aficionado for most of his life, the Englishman love for reggae apparent as early on as the first PiL record, so it’s rather thrilling to see the bassist team up with one of the genre’s veterans, Ken Boothe for an album of cover songs. Titled “Old Fashioned Ways” after the latter’s 1969 classic whose reimagining is included here alongside other perennials, it will be issued on June 27th.
There are more Boothe tunes on offer, “Freedom Street” and “Artibella” also made a fresh cut, yet he and Wobble updated such familiar numbers as Otis Redding’s “You Left The Water Running” and THE TEMPTATIONS’ “Just My Imagination” and “My Girl” to mention but a few pieces. Promises to be a deeply resonant thing.
1. Is It Because I’m Black
2. Old Fashioned Way
3. Artibella
4. You Left The Water Running
5. Everything I Own
6. A Song For You
7. Ain’t No Sunshine
8. Crying Over You
9. Freedom Street
10. Just My Imagination (Running Away With Me)
11. My Girl
12. Reggae Christmas
