Never being a bunch of slouches – what with five longplays released during their first two years as recording artists –THE BEVIS FROND may have slowed down a bit in recent years, yet the veterans seem to pick up such slack, and will soon follow 2024’s “Focus On Nature” with a double album. Titled “Horrorful Heights” and scheduled to see the light on April 3rd, it features, alongside the ensemble’s mastermind Nick Saloman, the collective’s mainstays Paul Simmons on guitar and Dave Pearce on drums as well as newly recruited bassist Louis Wiggett.
The twenty tracks on offer, ten per CD or vinyl platter, allowed the foursome expands the group’s stylistic frontiers and add raga motifs and, most surprisingly, country rock elements that make the familiar neo-psychedelic expanses feel fresh and exciting. Quite a feat!
