FERNANDO PERDOMO –
Waves 7

Daylight delights delivered by determined reverie-driver to his audience’s doorstep to lure the listeners out to see it all.

Fernando Perdomo and fatigue don’t seem to have anything in common apart from a few letters in his name and the name of the physiological state, so nobody would ever dare to assume the multi-instrumentalist must show signs of tiredness when embarking on the second half of his year-long quasi-concept voyage along different shores. Quite the contrary, without removing its inherent romantic core, the ten pieces of the series’ seventh volume offer a more robust approach to compositional ideas that’s rather succinctly summarized in the title of the jubilantly detailed “Majestic AF” – and there’s also a timeframe applied to these numbers, placing the album’s run within a single day.

Starting from “Sunrise Lightshow” which switches, briefly, from soft, widescreen abstractness and delicate twang to in-your-face, symphonic prog, and signing off with “Sunset Moonrise” which slowly, magnificently dwindles down the same cinematic vista, another installment of “Waves” is another twist in this untaxing undertaking. But while the brooding “Mirror Image Mirage” merely hints at the storm raging on the horizon by baring a few riffs amidst its strum and ethereal figures, the piano-propelled “Soul Of The Sea” embarks on a bluesy journey into succulent guitar tone that the acoustically tinctured ballad “Resolution” and theatrical “George’s Garden” direct towards dangerous waters. And if “Turn Of The Tide” opts for a soothing, although energetic, scenery, embossed with swelling bass passages, “Fever Dream” has a psychedelic tinge to its pacifying flow, and “Drums Of Peace” increases the record’s dynamic scope via monumentally heavy, raga-flavored chords and march-like rhythm.

Another chapter in the likeable chap sonic log, “Waves 7” is another thrill.
