Their latest reunion is yet to produce a sequel to 2022’s “Happiness Not Included” – other than this album’s extended version from 2024, that is – but SOFT CELL have no reason to complain, what with the duo’s release of the “Non-Stop Erotic Cabaret” box set two years ago and “Non-Stop Erotic Cabaret …And Other Stories: Live” concert document last year. More so, October 31st will see the issue of another multi-disc collection, one which focused on the band’s sophomore offering, “The Art Of Falling Apart” from 1983.
Originally appearing in 1983 – so it’s not really an anniversary edition – it may not feature a smash like the cover of “Tainted Love” proved to be on Marc Almond and Dave Ball’s debut longplay; still, there was a lot of top-notch material to solidify their reputation as synth-pop movers and shakers, and now, following the template of its predecessor, “The Art” is expanded to six CDs. With 36 previously unreleased tracks, including remixes, demos and onstage versions, accompanied by a 60-page hardback book, this should make a great addition to the little ensemble’s fans and the genre’s connoisseurs, although regular audience may well do with with a double-CD or double-LP variant.
