STATUS QUO Take “On The Level” To Anniversary Heights

Released in 1975, “On The Level” holds a special place in STATUS QUO history. Not that the band’s eighth studio offering was significantly different from what preceded or followed it, yet this album housed “Down Down” which would become their sole home-turf Number One single and a firm favorite with fans from 1974 onwards. Given the year of the platter’s issue, the time came to present its 50th anniversary edition, and indeed, October 18 will see a double-disc set hit the shelves.

There are no previously unheard tracks, nor are there any demos or in-progress pieces; while the first disc, be it on CD or vinyl, contains the album per se, presumably remastered, the second one places the quartet’s 1975’s “Live!” EP alongside concert recordings, including part of their German show which previously made it to a few bootlegs. Might be done better but, put into a 7-inch gatefold sleeve, alluring anyway.
