Given the quality of Ian Hunter‘s “Defiance” albums, his fans could only hope to hear songs off those performed on stage, yet the legendary singer hasn’t toured since 2019, and given his age, 86, it’s highly unlikely the veteran will ever go for a full-blown concert trek. That’s why his front-of-audience recordings from the past feel so alluring, and that’s why “All The Young Dudes – Live” which will be out on November 28th is worth paying attention to.
Documenting Hunter’s appearance in British capital in May of 2004, it’s not entirely new because, in the wake of this event, in 2005, a DVD titled “Just Another Night: Live At The Astoria, London” saw the light of day, but there never was a standalone audio version of that show, except for EPs cropping up on streaming platforms. And the show seemed truly special, with Ian’s THE RANT BAND including his MOTT THE HOOPLE’s colleague Mick Ralphs, Steve Holley of WINGS fame, and THE KINKS associate Ian Gibbons, and their guests on “All The Way From Memphis” being Joe Elliott and Brian May. A pity there’s no visual option now: it would have made an ultimate package.
