Given his stunning technique – those fluid and melodic runs that reverberate with the listener’s very psyche – and talents as composer, why Louis Cennamo‘s name is rarely mentioned within the bassists’ ranks remains a mystery. Not that the British musician ever played in obscure ensembles, what with his resume including THE DIMENSIONS, where he shared the space with Rod Stewart, RENAISSANCE, which he co-founded and rejoined when this collective became ILLUSION, and, though briefly, COLOSSEUM. So it’s about time the veteran shed a light on such an enigma.
Louis long wanted to do so, posting quite a few excerpts from his autobiography on Medium, yet Cennamo always maintained that his ultimate goal has been publishing a book which would include not only his adventures as performer – who, apart from working in various groups, accompanied Chuck Berry and Sister Rosetta Tharpe, toured alongside SANTANA and FLEETWOOD MAC, and laid down tracks with James Taylor, at Apple Records, where he met THE BEATLES – but also chapters on his soulful journey – a voyage somewhat reflected in the records by STAIRWAY, the band he created with lifelong friend Jim McCarty. And now Louis has finally brought his plans to fruition with the appearance of “wake In The Dream: The Spiritual Diary Of A Rockstar” – in paperback as of this moment.
Must be a great read, as next to the aforementioned combos there are Cennamo’s memories of his stints with THE HERD, ARMAGEDDON and other remarkable artists.
