Dick Gaughan’s Live Rarities See The Light Of Day

One of the greatest Scottish singers-songwriters of a folk stripe, Dick Gaughan stopped performing ten years ago, after suffering a stroke, but his status has been incessantly growing in scope since then, so an idea emerged of compiling the veteran’s concert recordings into a respectable box set – which is out now. A result of a successful crowdfunding campaign, “R/Evolution: 1969/83” spans seven CDs and a DVD, with all the profits benefitting the retired and visually impaired artist.

Curated by the esteemed journalist Colin Harper, it includes 83 previously unreleased audio tracks, many of which Dick had never laid down in a studio, and 37 never-seen videos, running for two-and-a-half hours and unveiling a couple of otherwise unrecorded Gaughan originals; there are also two extensive illustrated booklets to give it all a proper context. Those who aren’t ready to go so deep in the Scot’s oeuvre, however, can acquire “Live At The BBC: 1972-79”: a ten-cut comp culled from the large set.
