Captain Mark Farner Heads Homeward One More Time

This year marks 55 anniversary of GRAND FUNK RAILROAD being sprung onto an expecting world, and there’s no better excuse for the American band’s figurehead Mark Farner to cut a fresh version of their epic “I’m Your Captain (Closer To Home)” – yet this would be cashing in on past successes. That’s why the singing guitarist decided to add an entire album to it, his first studio effort since 2008’s “For The People” and, thus, a long-overdue opus.

Planned for release on November 8th, it’s titled slightly inauspiciously – to many a listener “Closer To My Home” may seem to signal another compilations – but, except for a new cut of the old chestnut, and an American bonus track “Friends Forever” which originally appeared on “Roots & Shoots, Vol. 1” by Jim Peterik and WORLD STAGE, there are eight recently composed tracks, including “Same Game” that Farner co-wrote with the record’s co-producer, and his namesake, Mark Slaughter. Must be good.
