When Chick Corea passed away on February 9th, 2021, our world became a much poorer place, and hearing in what a great form he was only four months prior to leaving this mortal coil should be extremely poignant – and listening to how it was will be possible – properly, on CD or vinyl, as opposed to the streaming option now – on February 27th, 2026 upon the release of the late genius’ “Forever Yours: The Farewell Performance” album.
Of course, the concerts he gave at Ruth Eckerd Hall in Clearwater, FL on October 23rd and 24th, 2020 weren’t planned to be the ivories maestro’s last, so the record’s title is a bit misleading – but the significance encased in such a title is not. It’s a solo piano recital that features both music, from Chick’s own cache of tunes and from his favorite composers, including Duke Ellington and Stevie Wonder, and spoken word as Corea’s way to fully immerse his audience in onstage proceedings. A truly unique document!
