Over the course of his six-decade-long career, Eric Andersen has released quite a few concert recordings, yet those felt as conceptual as any front-of-audience set can be, while the one he’s issuing on July 25th is different. Documenting the veteran singer-songwriting Japanese show from 2012, when the veteran was celebrating the 40th anniversary of his “Blue River album, it features nine of ten tracks which comprised that record and adds five more cuts to the classic’s context.
“Blue River: Live In Tokyo” finds Andersen in the company of his wife Inge, a vocalist, and violin player Michele Gazich, who helped Eric tap into the rich vein of the platter that originally was graced by many guests, including Joni Mitchell and David Bromberg. A belated treat.
