Famous Fans Pay Tribute To THE CRAMPS

“No one even said thanks, and no one made me stop,” sang THE CRAMPS on their 1980 debut album, but the parents of psychobilly would be proved wrong – twice so. The ensemble had to cease to exist once their mastermind Lux Interior passed away in 2009 and the singer’s musical and life partner retired; and the collective will see homage paid to them on August 4th when a platter titled “Goo Goo Muck” is to be out.

The American band saw their fair share of covers back in the day – Lux and Ivy’s cuts were played by many other artists, including such unlikely followers as NOUVELLE VAGUE and more conventional aficionados like QUEENS OF THE STONE AGE and MUSE – yet this tribute is brought home by more punk-oriented performers. Still, while THE BRAINS, FLAMIN’ GROOVIES or THE FUZZTONES are expected to get into the spirit of things, the presence on the disc – vinyl and CD – country-crown scion Shooter Jennings and boogie sister Linda Gail Lewis should not fail to excite any potential listener. After all, there’s an edge to “Can Your Pussy Do The Dog?” and “Bikini Girls With Machine Guns” one can’t go wrong with.
