New Box Set Covers John Lennon’s New York Adventures

As this scribe suggested as far back as in last February – and was confirmed by Sean Lennon in his comment to that suggestion on X – the “Power To The People” EP that hit the shelves on Record Store Day and the “One to One: John & Yoko” film that also saw its premiere in April will indeed be followed by a box set documenting the two shows John Lennon and Yoko Ono played at “Madison Square Garden” on August 30th, 1972 as part of “One to One” benefit concerts.

JOHN LENNON & YOKO ONO /
PLASTIC ONO BAND –
Power To The People

To be out on October 10th, also titled “Power To The People” and containing all the 31 live tracks from that date as well 92 bonus cuts – spread over nine CDs and three Blu-Rays, housed under a lenticular cover photo, and accompanied by 204-page hardback book and replicas of memorabilia – it comprises the “Sometime In New York City” album, up-to-now excluded from Lennon’s reissue series and but recently “reimagined” under the title of “New York City” and augmented, like the previous John’s box sets, with “Evolution” and “Elements” mixes. What’s missing, though, is “Woman Is The Nigger Of The World” – excluded from both studio and on-stage discs – and, as usual, the remaster of the original album. But there are also the previously unreleased rock ‘n’ roll covers from the 1972 sessions, an expansion of “Live Jam” LP featuring George Harrison, Eric Clapton, Frank Zappa, Keith Moon, Nicky Hopkins, Klaus Voormann and other guests, and acoustic demos, four of those with Phil Ochs.

It’s not cheap, of course – the cheaper variants come on four LPs, two LPs, two CDs and single CD – but it’s the most interesting version, whose contents look like this:
