Pete Townshend Produces Reg Meuross’ Tribute To Woody Guthrie

Quite a few people learned about Woody Guthrie from the recent Dylan biopic; others never forgot the legendary folkster. Reg Meuross belongs to the latter, of course, for this English artist is rather adept protest narrative, and so does Pete Townshend who’s wanted to celebrate the American hero for a long time and been looking for the right musician to commission to create a fitting tribute. It took Meuross four years of research to prepare and get ready to do justice to Guthrie, and finally March 14th is set as the date when the results of his effort, produced by Townshend, will see the light of day.

Titled “Fire & Dust: A Woody Guthrie Story” and comprising a mix of Reg’s originals and classics by his album’s protagonist whose daughter Nora approved the endeavor, it features Pete’s bass guitar and keyboards on a couple of tracks, so there’s a lot to attract an aficionado. Genuinely fascinating.
