Peter Perrett Seeks Catharsis On His Third Platter

Quite prolific in the days of THE ONLY ONES – the days that are not really over since the band came back in 2023, – Peter Perrett solo output is so scarce as to surprise many a listener. While the singer performed on his own for years, he stepped into a studio with a prospect of sculpting a personal album less than a decade ago and emerged with “How The West Was Won” in 2017 but took a sabbatical after 2019’s “Humanworld” saw the light of day. However, there’s a new Perrett’s platter on the horizon now, titled “The Cleansing” and scheduled for November 1st.

Its artwork, echoing that of Peter’s first individual outing, seems rather pessimistic, and songs like “Do Not Resuscitate” and “I Wanna Go With Dignity” – watch the latter’s monochrome video below – seem to exude the same gloom, yet it also feels cathartic. And it’s as expansive, spanning no less than 20 pieces, as it’s tuneful and warm, what with the presence of family and friends: Perrett’s sons Jamie and Peter Jr handle, respectively, guitar and bass duties, while the guests on display include Johnny Marr and Bobby Gillespie. The results are, as the record’s finale “Crystal Clear” suggests, alluring.
