Even though the multitudes tuned into Sean Lennon‘s talent with the release of his brilliant sophomore solo effort “Friendly Fire” in 2006, it’s not sophisticated pop that the scion of stars has been dealing in since then – of had dealt in before then, for that matter. The two THE CLAYPOOL LENNON DELIRIUM albums he masterminded with Les Claypool established the 48-year-old’s prog credentials, which is why there’s no surprise in his desire to strike again in the company of friends now.
The “Asterisms” platter which will be issued on February 16th on John Zorn’s Tzadik label should find Sean experiment with sound alongside Yuka Honda, Johnny Mathar and other fellow travelers into the great unknown, just as he did onstage in 2022 when this project was first launched. A cosmic instrumental effort, it consists of only five pieces, one of those, the last one, taking up an entire side of a vinyl release. Must be fantastically immersive.
1. Starwater
2. Thinking Of M
3. Acidalia
4. Asterisms
5. Heliopause
