While “You Can’t Have Too Much Of War” may sound militaristic, it’s certainly true when WAR is a name of one of the greatest soul-funk ensembles. Last two years saw a sort of start for their reissue programme, which, in addition of regular rereleases packaged into box sets, captivated fans first with a slightly belated 50th anniversary edition of “The World Is A Ghetto” and “Live In Japan 1974” tapes, and will now offer a jubilee variant of the fantastic “Why Can’t We Be Friends?” album.
The expanded vinyl version of the band’s 1975 platter has already been out for Record Store Day, yet the three CDs that will be available on June 6th are what most aficionados must welcome. Of course, it’s the freshly remastered album per se that should become the focus for many, the connoisseurs’ delights fill the other two discs of this reissue, where the unedited mix of the seminal “Low Rider” sits alongside other rarities, including an audio documentary about the making of the classic.
