Talking of THE ROLLING STONES, most people see the Glimmer Twins as the ultimate rockers, while in fact it was Bill Wyman who seemed the most solid performer in that regard, what with him being older than the rest of the band. Wyman may have written – or allowed to write – only two pieces for the group, 1967’s “In Another Land” and “Downtown Suzie” from 1969, yet ever since the bassist released his star-studded “Willie And the Poor Boys” album in 1985, his reputation soared anew, and when the veteran corralled such friends as Eric Clapton, Albert Lee and Gary Brooker into a project named RHYTHM KINGS, he couldn’t be stopped.
That combo’s fluctuating line-up put out their first platter in 1997 and ceased recording and touring in 2018, and now the ensemble’s entire oeuvre is ready to see the light of day as a ten-CD box set, simply titled “Ultimate Collection” and scheduled to hit the shelves on October 9th. There were similar attempt to gather it all before, but now there’s really everything, including a smattering of bonus tracks and three concert discs, two previously available on CD and one, prepared specifically for this offering, existed only in video form. A lot – yet again, the performances are solid throughout.
