A supergroup who never got the recognition they deserved, WILD HORSES were a THIN LIZZY off-shoot led by guitarist Brian Robertson and bassist Jimmy Bain – formerly with RAINBOW but standing in for Phil Lynott when he damaged his arm – with their various line-ups also featuring, among others, guitarist and keyboard player Neil Carter and drummer Clive Edwards, both to later land in UFO. Formed in 1978, three years later the group ceased to exist – to be remembered to this date. And 2016 will bring the veterans’ reunion aimed to highlight Robbo’s contribution to music and cheer him up as he’s not been feeling well for a few years.
So, with Edwards and Carter ready for action, the current ensemble are a sextet as opposed to quartet/quintet of yore, the rest of the positions to be taken, on Brian’s suggestion, by ex-BAD COMPANY axeman Dave Colwell, Clive’s bass-wielding colleague in HOUSE OF X Rocky Newton, and another six-stringer Mikael Fässberg. They’re keen to bring guests on-stage, although, when I asked Neil about the concert plans, the answer was, “maybe only one show.” Hopefully, there’ll be more.
