Al Stewart’s Bremen Show From 1979 Sees Audiovisual Issue

This year is special for Al Stewart, who’s aiming to celebrate his forthcoming 80s birthday by embarking on a farewell tour, so it’s quite fitting that there are going to be a few records issued to tie in with his anniversary. One of these seems to have already seen the light of day in Europe and should hit the shelves in America on May 9th: titled “Live At Radio Bremen TV” and comprising CD and DVD which share the content, it’s a document of the Scottish troubadour’s 1979 concert trek.

Stewart was riding high then, with his 1976 album “Year Of The Cat” and 1978’s “Time Passages” well on the way to the platinum status, so when he arrived in Germany, accompanied by a stellar ensemble that included the incredible Harry Stinson on drums, Al felt rather confident to dedicate more than a half of his television appearance to almost half of his latest longplay and focus on such future classics as “The Palace Of Versailles” to endear them to the listener’s hearts. Given that the veteran’s first official live platter wouldn’t be out until 1981 and the overall scarcity of his on-stage reports, let alone archival ones, this release feels essential.
