It’s been nine years that ATOMIC ROOSTER returned to stay. With a blessing from Vincent Crane’s widow, guitarist Steve Bolton recruited singer Peter French, as the two were in the band in 1971-1972, although the line-up featuring both of them didn’t last long, but the veterans parted company in 2023. French left to work on a new LEAF HOUND platter, yet Bolton and the rest of the ensemble persevered, and October 10th will see them release the first ROOSTER studio album since “Headline News” which saw the light of day as far back as 1983.
With vocals now handled by keyboard player Adrian Gautrey, bass by Shugg Millidge on bass and drums by Paul Everett, the record titled “Circle The Sun” features ten fresh cuts that – as “Last Night” and “Rebel Devil” suggest, echoing songs like “Tomorrow Night” and “Devil’s Answer” – channel the classic group’s dark tendencies.
“‘Circle The Sun’ is all brand-new true-Gothic tunes,” says the man affectionately known as Boltz. “We’ve stuck to the original band’s ethic but with a modern twist, deliberately recording the album absolutely live in the studio, with a bare amount of overdubs in the sessions at Safe Haven Studio deep in a Lincolnshire forest. I call it a musical flight, where the ominous influence of Edgar Allan Poe meets the power of pop to take you on a journey from this world to the beyond. If he had made a pop album, this would be how it would sound!”
