One of the most fantastic power trios, BAKER GURVITZ ARMY – combining two thirds of GUN, Adrian and Paul Gurvitz, and one third of CREAM, Ginger Baker, plus vocalist Mr. Snips and keyboardist Peter Lemer who joined a tad further down the line – seemed to be perfectly poised for success in their firm grasp of blues, hard rock and prog and instrumental prowess only to fall through the cracks and fizzled out after less than three years and three albums of highest quality. And they were most impressive outside of the studio, the ensemble’s concert performances going way beyond recorded prototypes and throwing in an occasional cover alongside original material which included all bar one cut of the British group’s eponymous debut from 1974 and a half of its successor "Elysian Encounter" released a year later. And as 1975 felt like the veterans’ peak year, rounding up all of their available on-stage documents from that period is rather logical.
Planned to be out on January 26th, 2024 and titled “Neon Lights: The Broadcasts 1975” after a track which would land on "Hearts On Fire" in 1976, the 3CD/2DVD box set comprises a lot of what was previously unreleased, although it needs to be said that the Derby tapes have seen the light of day before on a single disc, while this edition spreads the show over two, and the trio’s German TV appearance was out as well. Here, though, everything looks to have been restored and remastered, so there should be a lot to enjoy.
