While lesser artists would rush to capitalize on induction of their band into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, Belinda Carlisle did what she always used to: chose her own creative path took her time to release new music. But if 2023’s EP “Kismet” featured five tracks tailored for the singer by Diane Warren, the longplay follow-up to “Wilder Shores” from 2017, where she shocked quite a few fans with Sikh chants in place of pop, contains no fresh cuts at all – in terms of composition, rather than performance. To be out on August 29th, “Once Upon A Time In California” is the American chanteuse’s second set of covers.
Her first was 2007’s “Voila” – on which Ms. Carlisle interpreted mostly French perennials, her forthcoming collection focuses, despite its title, on the Anglo-American classics from the late ’60s and early ’70s, including not one but two pieces from Harry Nilsson’s repertoire. Given the Belinda’s approach to vocal delivery, the results promise to impress.
1. Anyone Who Had A Heart (Dionne Warwick)
2. If You Could Read My Mind (Gordon Lightfoot)
3. One (Harry Nilsson)
4. Never My Love (THE ASSOCIATION)

6. Time In A Bottle (Jim Croce)
7. Superstar (THE CARPENTERS)
