A rhythm-and-blues supremo, a fusion pioneer, a master of roaring Hammond: Brian Auger is all that and so much more – plus he’s a great storyteller, and undoubtedlym quite a few stories can be told about him as well. Here’s why a documentary on the veteran’s life seems long overdue, and the film which may become a great addition to the footage of Auger’s performances with TRINITY, OBLIVION EXPRESS and other ensembles he fronted – the footage that’s always been in circulation and the “lost” footage that keeps on appearing once in a while – has become a tangible possibility.
Titled “I Speak Music” and fully endorsed by Brian and his folks, the film’s got a team to bring it to fruition in 2025 – yet there’s a matter of financing it. And that’s why just recently a crowdfunding campaign has started to run for a couple of months with a target of £225,000 which will enable director Alfred George Bailey to begin a proper work on the project – shooting interviews, licensing archival material etcetera. A worthy case with a generous smattering of prizes for donors who can earn a meet-and-great with the legendary artist himself and get hold of memorabilia – yet, what’s more important, to help Brian Auger secure his legacy in a new way.
