Cyndi Lauper has long outgrown her “Girls Just Want To Have Fun” pop frolics and become a serious artist. The whole grandeur of the singer’s maturity was displayed on her 2010’s album “Memphis Blues” and its companion live release from the following year, so Cyndi’s new endeavor should come as no surprise, even though its title may suggest a deviation from her norm. Scheduled for May 6th, “Detour” is a collection of country classics, some of them duets with the genre’s stars, including the venerable Willie Nelson and Emmylou Harris. Must be fun, really, what with Lauper’s inimitable delivery.
The dozen rustic cuts are:
1. Funnel Of Love
2. Detour (feat. Emmylou Harris)
3. Misty Blue
4. Walkin’ After Midnight
5. Heartaches By The Number
6. The End Of The World
7. Night Life (feat. Willie Nelson)
8. Begging To You
9. You’re Rhe Reason Our Kids Are Ugly (feat. Vince Gill)
10. I Fall To Pieces
11. I Want to Be A Cowboy’s Sweetheart (feat. Jewel)
12. Hard Candy Christmas (feat. Alison Krauss)
