Modest as he is as a person, Dave Bainbridge has never lacked ambition in creative terms, and yet the English artist’s fifth solo album, promises to be his most impressive project to date. Spanning not one but two discs – in both compact and vinyl variants – and binding together his customary elements of prog and folk, as well as jazz and classical music, “On The Edge (Of What Could Be)” will find the veteran dive into existential issues, current affairs and ancient mysteries, so it’s going to be a riveting experience.
Helping Dave out in performing the dozen of pieces are quite a few stellar players, including such luminaries as Simon Phillips and Randy McStine, plus the usual suspects Troy Donockley and Sally Minnear. Arriving on June 30th, that’s a tentative contender for the “Album of the Year” gong in a several categories.
