Produced by Joe Boyd and with artwork designed by Roger Dean – but, first of all, filled with great tunes – DR. STRANGELY STRANGE‘s sophomore effort, “Heavy Petting” from 1970, has long since become acid-folk classic. It saw a fair number of reissues, yet another one, prepared for a April 24th release, must be of special interest to the Irish ensemble’s fans.
Freshly demixed, remastered and expanded to span two discs, the album’s 55th Anniversary Edition offers a generous smattering of rarities – mostly recorded for the BBC and partially previously available on the band’s "Radio Sessions" – and thus provides a deeper insight into the work that stood the test of time. There are studio documents too, so this version feels quite arresting.
