One of the criminally underestimated, even obscure, delights this year brought about was "Art": a fusion-focused album that turned out to be only the first undiluted experiment between two old friends, Fernando Perdomo and Matt Tecu. “Undiluted – because there were no other musician involved in the recording, but also because it was born as a result of a high-octane, yet emotionally charged, jam. And this is the method the pair returned two recently to produce another platter.
Titled “Getting Warmer” and comprising ten new cuts, it’s scheduled for release on March 28th – with a credit swapping the players’ names to keep the listener’s perspective fresh. And there are two guests now, Cheyenne Crow and FOO FIGHTERS’ Rami Jaffee to add colors to Matt and Fern’s sonic palettes. But how did it all happen?
“‘Getting Warmer’ is my second collaboration with my ‘Echo In The Canyon’ bandmate Matt Tecu,” says Perdomo. “Matt is one of the most creative people I have met in Los Angeles, and we are really great friends. As with our first album, we booked two days at my Forward Motion Studios and had zero material prepared, so what you’ll hear on ‘Getting Warmer’ is two hypercreative people making music in a totally spontaneous way.”
