Some Facebook groups are for idle chatter; others work miracles. A group dedicated to FRUUPP, one of the most underrated British prog ensembles from the early ’70s belongs to the latter category – championing the band in ways both possible and seemingly impossible. That’s how the collective’s box set and live album came to exist rather recently, and that’s how another interesting project, planned for October release, became a reality. It’s a platter titled “Solace” which will serve as a tribute to singing bassist Peter Farrelly who passed away in 2025.
A collection of new old recordings by the band – sourced in concert and remixed – as well as “Tuesday Night At No 11” that was freshly laid down in a studio, FRUUPP members’ other endeavors, including MINX led by guitarist Vincent McCusker, a few featuring drummer Martin Foye, and numbers from the ensemble’s friends, the limited-edition CD and two-LP versions are bound to become collectors items. What’s important is that all proceeds from these are to benefit the still-alive players and the families of those who died, because they didn’t receive any royalties from any of their four studio opuses.
