In recent decades a sense of Graham Bonnet getting liberated from the legend he’s been cultivating for ages became quite tangible, and each new album the veteran and his band record makes it abundantly clear. And the ensemble’s forthcoming opus “Circuit Breaker” may represent the culmination of this process, with the presence of guest musicians emphasizing the singer’s readiness to embrace the reality of his 80th year on Earth.
Most listeners will concentrate on Graham’s duet with IRON MAIDEN’s Bruce Dickinson on the impressive “The Fifth Force Of Nature” that came with a video (watch below), where the two warblers perform side-by-side in person, and on Bonnet’s sharing the sonic space on “The Captain” with HELLOWEEN’s Kai Hansen. Yet it’s the appearance of the vocalist’s former RAINBOW colleague Roger Glover and the submission of a few songs by Russ Ballard, whose pieces – such as “Since You Been Gone” and “S.O.S.” – Graham gave voice to aeons ago, that render the new platter, planned for release on March 26th, truly special. With Bonnet’s belle Beth-Ami Heavenstone on bass and the faithful Conrado Pesinato on guitar, it promises to be a really electrifying offering.
