Judging by the many zombies movies, the dead should remain dead, and one would presume GRATEFUL DEAD have been pretty much dead for two decades now, since their leader Jerry Garcia’s death. All their reunions usually didn’t bear the parent band’s full name, yet 2015 marks the ensemble’s 50th anniversary, making it a nice excuse to get together again – and that’s without mentioning the Martin Scorsese film, a couple of years in the works now. So July 3rd, 4th and 5th are to become the group’s farewell concerts that will see three original members – guitarist Bob Weir, bassist Phil Lesh and drummer Bill Kreutzmann – join forces with Mickey Hart, Kreutzmann’s thundering partner from 1967, and Bruce Hornsby on piano; rounding off the line-up will be PHISH’s Trey Anastasio on guitar and Jeff Chimenti, keyboardist with the DEAD spin-offs such as THE OTHER ONES and THE DEAD.
Given how many Deadheads are there, this should be a hot ticket. The rest, perhaps, shouldn’t bother.
