While many ensembles with prog intent bank on pseudo-intellectual approach and bombastic expression, HELD BY TREES have been seeking divinity in details from their very beginnings, although minimalism became only a small part of the British collective’s method, as the fittingly titled "Hinterland" proved so brilliantly. One year after that album saw the light of day, its follow-up is set to hit the shelves on October 2nd to mark the band’s further advances into heartbreak and beauty.
Whereas the group’s mastermind David Joseph retained the nucleus of players such as Robbie McIntosh that worked, in TALK TALK and beyond, with Mark Hollis – whose aesthetics defined HELD BY TREES’ initial sonic outlook – there’s a shift now as signaled by the colorful artwork of “The Call Of Home” and the presence of stylistically diverse guests, including Eric Bibb, the blues great returning to the fold half a decade after he contributed to the ensemble’s "Mysterium" single. Must be fantastic.
