There have been quite a few DEEP PURPLE tribute albums released over the past few decades, but not enough for a band of such enormous influence, and most of those records underperformed anyway. This may change on November 13th with the appearance of “Purple Storm”: a platter with truly appalling cover artwork, yet one featuring a stellar line-up that includes members of RAINBOW, WHITESNAKE and URIAH HEEP, among other prominent musicians.
Of course, they hardly shared the studio space for this, and some tracks on offer are less impressive than others – Arthur Brown could have been given a DP original, rather than doing a cover of a cover of “Hush” – and still, the results looks interesting. Hopefully, they sound interesting too.
