Fiery hard-rock riffs, flaming folksy elegance, progressive flight of fantasy: Irish legends HORSLIPS possess all these traits and have been flaunting them for, on and off, more than five decades now, infecting aficionados with such classics as “Dearg Doom” and “Charolais” and influencing numerous other Celtic-souled collectives. Over the years, the ensemble attempted to delve into their history, but mostly to stitch the past to the present, as it was on the "The Road To O2" DVD – and not to the extent of definitive box set which is titled “More Than You Can Chew” and scheduled to see the light of day on July 29th. Comprised of 33 newly mastered CDs and 2 DVDs – including the group’s every album, even those that were never issued in digital form, in mini-LP slipcases, and the players’ solo efforts – it features more than 500 pieces, half of them previously unreleased.
The collection, curated by esteemed journalist Colin Harper, who closely collaborated with the musicians, also includes 262-page lavish hardback historical book, 88-page lyric book, 5 vintage 8×10 photos each signed individually by all five band members, folder of fan club facsimiles from the ’70s, and reproduction of the National Stadium concert poster from 1972. That’s why the price of the box set is not cheap.
