It’s a clear sign of insecurity – or of a desperate attempt to secure wider market – that latest John Lodge records have “THE MOODY BLUES'” incorporated into his logo, but his music doesn’t require such blatant bolstering. And when the veteran needed support for his forthcoming EP, John turned to friends from the band most closely associated with his logo’s designer – his colleagues on “The Royal Affair Tour”: YES. Not the entire band, though.
Prepared to be out on Valentine’s Day, February 14th, Lodge’s new platter “Love will Conquer All” – a five-track effort properly presented in a digipak with a booklet – featuring singer Jon Davison, on all of the pieces, and Geoff Downes on keyboards. The other players onboard include guitarist Dave Colquhoun, who worked with Downes on DBA’s "Live In England" and took part in a couple of Rick Wakeman‘s albums, and another six-string master, Tim Maple. Two of the numbers on display may be familiar to some listeners, having seen the light of day as digital-only offerings, but even these were remixed to join three fresh cuts here. Alluring!
1. Love Will Conquer All
2. Whispering Angels
3. Sunset Over Cocohatchee Bay
4. In These Crazy Times
5. The Sun Will Shine
